Come election time, you will find me strolling to election centres, to have a quick chat with political candidates distributing their pamphlets. I ask them only one question, “are you pro-life or pro-choice?” If they answer “pro-choice,” I graciously thank them and let them know that I will vote for them when they become pro-life 😊.

I collect election pamphlets and do my own research on candidates. My sister makes telephone calls to candidates to know their position on the most important issue of LIFE, because we want to ensure we do not vote for any party that promotes “abortion” (euphemistically called termination😔).

Why is the abortion issue so critical?

Because Scripture repeatedly tells us that there is life in the womb. I wonder how many prophets we have killed, by not actively advocating against abortion laws?

Many will disagree saying they are not single-issue voters. And that is an important point of view because all issues concerning humanity and the environment are important. But let us break this down a bit. If we are to draw a visual here and put the brutal killing of a baby in a womb on one scale and an unfair immigration law denying a visa to an immigrant on the other scale, what does your conscience say is a priority issue? Immigration, education, poverty etc are all CRITICAL issues, no denying that. But as Fr. Chris Alar beautifully explains—based on well researched church and Biblical teachings—these issues are for the COMMON GOOD but are NEGOTIABLE (PLEASE listen to a further explanation of authentic teachings by Fr. Chris

On the other hand, the protection of life at all stages from conception to natural death (abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning), sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, and the preservation of religious liberty are NON-NEGOTIABLE and at the HEART OF THE COMMON GOOD (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) and their violation is INTRINSICALLY EVIL and can never be justified, no matter what the circumstances are. (This is absolutely no judgement or condemnation of anyone who has had an abortion🙏). This post is about making informed voting choices based on the truth.

Regarding the sanctity of marriage, we already know satan is desperately trying to break up the first domestic church — the family. We are experiencing more and more laws which are supressing the freedom of religion. Many COVID restrictive laws have already given us a taste of religious persecution. But for fear that this post will get too long, I am only focussing on the importance of the abortion issue as an election priority here, because it is the foundation of LIFE.

Fr. Michael O’Connor

God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Gen1:27). Who are we then, to allow the killing of God’s creations? Psalm 139:13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

The reality is that often, there are no worthy candidates🙄. But the answer is not to abstain from voting, as we have a duty to vote. Perhaps that is when we have to make an informed decision to CHOOSE THE LESSER EVIL and pray for our elected politicians to have the mind of Christ (1Cor2:16).

There is NO compromise when we know Christ’s truth, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32). This year, thanks to many priests who have been courageously educating us, we have no excuses of ignorance of the truth. (Worth listening to an excellent teaching by Fr. Michael O’Connor–xulqeI

And believe it or not, we will all have to give an account of our political choices to Jesus, on judgment day (whether it be about Presidential elections in the USA or any country or even the Council elections in Australia!)
